NM WIC Staff Spotlight

Veronica is our brand-new Supervisor at the Silver City WIC Office. Veronica started as a clerk back in April of 2013. She took to her position at that time easily and knew she wanted to do more with the WIC program so, she decided to work on nutrition education hours on her own to hopefully become an EI. She reached that goal in March of 2016 and became an EI. Veronica was a natural at counseling and navigating the new changes that were happening within NMWIC. When the new system was introduced in 2018, she learned quickly and became a standout EI within the Southwest Region.

In 2020 when the pandemic hit the Silver City office had already been going through some difficult times as they lost their long time Supervisor Brandi who transferred to the Southeast Region. From 2020 to the current year one supervisor stepped in briefly for about a year not nearly long enough to learn all the ins and outs of that job which meant that truly Veronica become the leader within the Silver City WIC office as we searched for a new supervisor.

In 2021 Veronica began her journey to obtain her bachelor’s degree. Veronica has 3 children and was working full time but sacrificed to work on her degree. As we went through another supervisor that only lasted a month in 2022 Veronica continued to chip away at her degree. She eventually graduated in the summer of 2023 and was able to submit her application for the position of Nutritionist Supervisor of the Silver City / Lordsburg Office.

I am so thrilled that as of October of 2023 we were able to make her the offer and she accepted!! Witnessing her inspiring journey from Clerk to Eligibility Interviewer to not only Nutritionists but Nutritionist Supervisor has been so heartwarming and a hopeful reminder to all that with hard work and commitment you can get the job you desire. I would like to acknowledge her hard work and dedication to the WIC Program and all the clients she has served through out her years so far. I am so excited to see what the next chapter brings for the Silver City WIC Clinic. I welcome her enthusiasm and her tenacity to our SW region leadership team!!
