NM WIC Staff Spotlight

Paula Sanchez, a 13-year veteran at Roswell WIC, has a massive heart for service, bringing a deeply personal and heart-centered approach to public health. It’s clear that Paula, as an Eligibility Interviewer (EI), doesn’t see her job as just a job—it’s about building a genuine community.

Paula feels that WIC is more than a career; it is a family dedicated to safeguarding the health of local mothers and children. “There is nothing quite like the feeling of a ‘WIC kid’ or their parent spotting you in town and reaching out with a hug to show their appreciation,” she says. She absolutely loves WIC, but after a career of profound impact, she will be retiring from the program in 2027.

Outside of the office, Paula continues her mission of service by providing weekend care and support for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. That takes a special kind of patience and empathy, and it’s a beautiful extension of the “family” atmosphere she cherishes at WIC. Roswell is lucky to have someone so dedicated to lifting others up, and her presence at Roswell will be deeply missed when she begins her next chapter.
